The Most Energy Efficient Falling Film System on the Market

  • 60 Gallons / Hour
    99+% Recovery
  • Fully-Automated Remote Control
  • Uses 65% Less Energy

Taking a look at what is on the market today, we have developed the most energy-efficient falling film evaporator system. Maratek’s patent-pending Helios incorporates new technology into the established falling film process that allows energy savings of up to 65% compared to a conventional system.

Conventional falling film systems work in a thermal open loop, requiring an external heat source to boil solvent and a chiller to condense that solvent, using energy in both steps. Maratek’s Helios uses a heat pump to recycle the energy from the condenser back to the evaporator, closing the heat loop and dramatically reducing energy use by 65%.

Helios, like other falling film systems, pumps your extracted oil-solvent solution into the evaporator at a precise rate where it is rapidly heated causing the solvent to be boiled and the oil recovered. Unlike other falling film systems, Maratek’s system only heats your oil up to 55C, improving oil quality and terpene retention compared to other systems that need to heat the oil to higher temperatures.

After the solvent is boiled in the evaporator, it passes through Helios’ cyclone separator where entrained oil carryover is separated from the solvent vapor. The oil-free solvent vapor then flows to the condenser to be reliquified, where its latent heat is captured by the heat pump and returned to the evaporator.

Maratek’s falling film system also incorporates technology that allows you to control and monitor the system locally over wifi, or at a remote location over the internet. Remote access also allows us to seamlessly resolve problems you may encounter over the internet with your permission, and to assist with diagnostics and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.

Heat Pump Benefits

The integrated heat pump allows the Helios to operate without a chiller and with significantly lower energy cost. The heat captured from condensation is reused to heat the incoming feed. This allows the Helios to use
up to 65% less energy than standard recovery systems.

How Does It Work?

1. Starting at the Compressor, it provides a flow of pressurized refrigerant in gas form towards the Heat Pump Condenser and Helios Evaporator.
2. At the Heat Pump Condenser, it exchanges energy with the Helios Evaporator and the pressure of the refrigerant stays high, but the temperature drops which causes the refrigerant to become a liquid.
3. After, the liquid refrigerant flows to the Expansion Valve where the pressure of the liquid is lowered. Then it makes its way to the Heat Pump Evaporator and Helios Condenser.
4. Finally, the refrigerant exchanges energy with the Helios Condenser which turns the liquid into a gas and keeps the cycle moving when returning to the compressor at the beginning.

Having multiple changes in physical state causes the release and absorption of its own energy, making for a very energy efficient and economical cycle
